Modern Cottage
The modern cottage is a single story 3000 square foot home for a couple who desired to age in place. The cottage is nestled among the existing trees in a village neighborhood. The architecture of the residence emerges from the delicate balance of the need for privacy, light and a desire for a modern aesthetic, which feels like a comfortable cottage.
The gathering spaces are defined by the pattern of light filtering into the space from the clearstory windows above the white-washed Douglas Fir framing. The spine of light fills the rooms coupled with windows, which balance the view and privacy.
HONORS: The Modern Cottage won a 2018 Architectural Design Award.
