Tree Tower
“The dream of the Tree Tower grew majestically, with purpose and dignity, like a tree, and combines art and engineering. It truly is a monument to nature and the imagination, and permanently alters the perspective of the Cox Arboretum.” – Jean Woodhull
The Tower was constructed utilizing three 30-foot long wood columns in a triangular configuration with glue laminated curvilinear Port Orford Cedar lateral braces with structural steel feet anchored to 12-foot deep concrete caissons.
The triangular structure is wrapped with an ADA compliant accessible stair composed of clear Western Red Cedar Framing and Decking. The exterior of the guard walls are clad with hand split Western Red Cedar shakes with a bark texture.
Honors: The Tree Tower of Cox Arboretum and Gardens Metropark won a 2012 Architectural Design Award.
